Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
The successful candidate will have superior financial management skills and experience and a through knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles in relation to nonprofit entities and community foundations. He or she must be a hands-on manager, a strategic thinker and problem solver, and a highly effective communicator, both written and spoken. He or she will work closely with the Board of Directors and Sojourn’s Management staff, and be skillful at promoting an open, inclusive environment that emphasizing cooperation and teamwork.
- The responsibilities of the CFO include
- Overseeing all financial operations of the organization
- Providing leadership and direction for Sojourn’s financial operations by maintaining and developing systems and procedures to ensure that all transactions are accounted for in accordance with established internal control procedures, and generally accepted accounting principles
- Provide counsel on key strategic and business decisions, ensuring that exposures to risk are identified and managed
- Manage day-to-day financial and administration operations, including the development of effective reporting, and monitoring systems
- Participate in the development and implementation of strategic planning, focusing on multi-year goals and objectives
- Prepare budgets, ensuring that the organization operates within budget guidelines
- Providing technical supervision to accounting personnel to ensure that the organization‘s financial data are correct and that accounts receivable and payable functions are handled timely and accurately
- Participate in government grant development and manage the process of follow-up and collection of funds
- Prepare cost reports for various funding sources, ensuring compliance with all audit requirements
- Qualifications
- C.P.A. or advanced degree in Accounting
- At least 10 years of combined public and private accounting experience, with a minimum of five years experience in fiscal management of a multi-million dollar nonprofit organization
- Significant understanding of public policy regarding how to implement regulatory requirement in a community-based nonprofit
- Ability to analyze complex financial data, proposing viable solutions, and prioritize workflow to meet critical deadlines, paying close attention to detail
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
- Possess excellent written and oral communication skills
